![]() ![]() I get this small usb icon (next too the battery symbol)- when I click on it it gives me 2 options: ejecting the drive or going to 'Devices and Printers' and through there I cant open it either. It opens on other laptops both PC and Macs. Here are comparison pictures showing shells, info and serials to confirm they are same disk(s), read of same passed through device in same configuration. My Seagate external hard drive (backup plus slim) wont open or show up on my new surface laptop 3. is not in operation, you should run a diagnostic utility, such as Seagate's SeaTools. I generally dont replace drives until they start having symptoms (OS crashing, etc.) or run out of space, but you should at least start preparing for replacement. Use the RAID 0 array as a data drive and not as the boot drive. I am not an expert, but i tested to see if it was disk issues or something else. In my experience CAUTION on Seagate 2 TB HDDs mean you have less than 6 months of life left. If i run same command in centos 7, i get full disk temp readings. I have noticed lately after swapping out my Seagate ES drives for newer ES.3 ones that my disk temps are not showing for neither of the 7 disks installed (6 as raidZ2 and 1 as hot spare) In shell using smartctl -a /dev/da i cannot get readings of temps on either one as seen in the reports (showing 0). Note: Windows will normally see the uninitialized drive when you open Disk Management and start the wizard to initialize the disk for you. Choose Disk Management under the Storage category. The Computer Management window will open. I also have my test centOS 7 VM that has access to the disks the same way TrueNAS does as it has access to the passthrough disks ( running either TrueNAS or shutting it down and running centos 7). On your keyboard press the Windows key () + R 2. Then reconnect the external hard drive and turn on the computer. Seagate has taken returns from me, in the past, with a trouble reporting indicating that SeaTools could not be run because the BIOS either did not detect the drive or would not POST with the drive attached. Now turn off the PC for at least 1 minute. To do this, disconnect your external hard drive from the computer. My system is virtualized but using passthrough for the controller, so all disk are directly available to only TrueNAS, system works perfectly well, no errors, no issues and it's been 3 years. Restart the laptop/PC Quite often, issues such as a Seagate external hard disk light blinking but not being detected can be fixed by simply rebooting the computer. I have noticed lately after swapping out my Seagate ES drives for newer ES.3 ones that my disk temps are not showing for neither of the 7 disks installed (6 as raidZ2 and 1 as hot spare) In shell using smartctl -a /dev/da* i cannot get readings of temps on either one as seen in the reports (showing 0). ![]() Hello, everyone, i have been using freenas/TrueNAS for a few years now and just love it.
